Water Quality

This is an Environminute Disaster Advisory from the National Safety Council and the Governors Office of Emergency Services.

Before you quench your thirst, make sure your water is safe. Boil all rain and tap water and water from containers you're not sure about. If you have a well, have the water tested before you resume use. Your local health department can help you here. Avoid contact with flood water. You could find yourself wading into harmful contaminants and debris. Always wash after contact with flood water. And, throw away any food, medicine or toiletry item that has come into contact with it. Tightly sealed cans and bottles are o-k, as long as they're thoroughly washed before you open them. If you have questions about water quality, contact your local health department or county extension agent.

This Environminute Disaster Advisory was brought to you by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation.
