This is an Environminute Disaster Advisory from the National Safety Council and the Governors Office of Emergency Services.
It's important for your family to be prepared before disaster strikes. Take some time to talk things over, and create a family emergency plan. Adults should know how to shut off water, gas and electricity at the main switches. Even young children can get training in first aid and C-P-R. Post emergency numbers by each telephone. Design an evacuation procedure. Decide where you will all meet, if you become separated. Meet with your neighbors and find out who has special skills or special needs. Make sure that children will be cared for if parents can't get home. Finally, once your family disaster plan is in place, practice it often.
This Environminute Disaster Advisory was brought to you by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation.
