This is an Environminute Disaster Advisory from the National Safety Council and the Governors Office of Emergency Services.
Heavy rains can flood roads without warning--and flooded roads can be very dangerous. Take special precautions if you must go out in a storm. Avoid areas that you know are prone to flooding. Do not try to walk through moving water that's more than six inches deep--fast-flowing water can be powerful enough to sweep you away in an instant. If you're in a car, do not try to drive down a flooded road--you could become stranded and trapped in rising waters. If your car stalls, get out of the car immediately and head for higher ground. Do not try to move your stalled car--just go! No matter what, stay out of areas that have been blocked off by authorities--they're closed for good reason.
This Environminute Disaster Advisory was brought to you by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation.
