This is an Environminute Disaster Advisory from the National Safety Council and the Governors Office of Emergency Services.
Has your home or property been damaged by floods or storms? Keeping detailed records will help speed up your insurance settlement. Take pictures that show the damage and flooding--both inside and outside your home. Carefully sort damaged property from undamaged items for your insurance adjuster to examine. Get rid of damaged property that poses a health hazard or gets in the way of clean-up operations. But keep a good list of all the items you discard with brand names, serial numbers, prices, and purchase dates. Make a list of any missing property. For further information or a policy call the National Flood Insurance Program at 1-800-427-4661.
