This is an Environminute Disaster Advisory from the National Safety Council and the Governors Office of Emergency Services.
Do you own livestock or horses, or keep house pets? Your animals depend on you for daily care--but especially during a storm or flood. Make sure your animals wear identification that includes at least your name and phone number. Permanent I-Ds like brands, tattoos, ear tags or microchips are best. But other identification -- like a collar tag or halter tag -- also works. In a pinch, you can tag livestock with paint, or make a tag from duct tape and permanent marker. Have an evacuation plan for your livestock or horses. You'll want to take them to high ground on your property. And make sure you have enough water and feed for several days.
This Environminute Disaster Advisory was brought to you by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation.
