Rebuilding Your Home

This is an Environminute Disaster Advisory from the National Safety Council and the Governors Office of Emergency Services.

If your home has been badly damaged by the recent El Nino flooding, you may face some difficult decisions about how to rebuild. You can turn setback into an opportunity to make your home more energy efficient. Now is a good time to add insulation, and install modern, energy-efficient windows. These two steps will help your home retain heat during the winter and reflect heat during summer. They'll also make your home more airtight, so heating and cooling bills will go down. Finally, talk with your licensed contractor about using recycled and resource-efficient building materials. When you rebuild with energy conservation in mind, you'll save money--and be more comfortable, too.

This Environminute Disaster Advisory was brought to you by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation.
