Andrews:
I'm Richard Andrews, director of the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services. This is an EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory
from our agency and the National Safety Council. :10
Announcer:
Fire drills are a part of school safety. They're a
smart idea at home, too. Check your smoke detectors regularly, but
also make sure everyone in your family knows how to sound the alarm:
by yelling, pounding on the walls, or blowing a whistle. Practice
getting out fast. There's no time to waste getting dressed or looking
for pets or valuables. Practice rolling out of bed and staying low.
In a real fire, that keeps you below the smoke. You can even do your
fire drill blindfolded — the smoke from a real fire would make it hard
to see. Finally, make sure everyone knows this rule: If your clothes
catch fire, stop, drop, and roll. :34
Announcer:
This EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory was brought to you
by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation. :05
