Andrews:
I'm Richard Andrews, director of the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services. This is an EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory
from our agency and the National Safety Council. :10
Announcer:
If a wildfire seems to be headed for your property,
prepare to leave quickly. Before the evacation order, a few simple
steps can help firefighters protect your home. Close any shutters or
heavy drapes — they'll block some of the heat. Take down sheer curtains, which are more likely to catch fire. Leave doors unlocked, so
firefighters can enter easily. And leave the lights on, so your house
will be visible through the smoke. If you have a ladder, lean it
against the roof, to give firefighters easy access. And keep your
radio on. If fire officials say "Time to evacuate," leave right away.
Your life is more valuable than your house. :34

This EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory was brought to you
