Andrews:
I'm Richard Andrews, director of the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services. This is an EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory
from our agency and the National Safety Council. :10
Announcer:
The destructive force of a fire doesn't end with the
visible damage to your home and possessions. It can continue for
months by taking a toll on your mental health. Losing family pictures
and other cherished keepsakes can have a devastating impact. Feelings
of helplessness, anger, and depression are normal. But it's important
to deal with your emotional needs — and those of your family. Talk
about your fears and frustrations . Realize that your children are
especially vulnerable to such a traumatic event. They may even think
they are to blame. Reassure them that they are safe — and not
responsible for the fire. :34
Announcer:
This EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory was brought to you
by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation. :05
