Andrews:
I'm Richard Andrews, director of the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services. This is an EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory
from our agency and the National Safety Council. :10
Announcer:
If fire has taken a toll on your home, you may be in
the market for a contractor to make some repairs. Unfortunately,
disasters can bring out home-repair rip-off artists. So shop
carefully for a contractor. Ask friends, relatives, or neighbors for
recommendations — and check with your insurance agent or claims
adjuster. Make sure the contractor is licensed and insured. Ask for
a list of satisfied customers, or call the California Contractors'
State License Board: 1 (800) 321-2752. Make sure you understand all the terms of the contract.
And never pay for the whole job up front or with cash. :34
Announcer:
This EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory was brought to you
by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation. :05
