Andrews:
I'm Richard Andrews, director of the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services. This is an EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory
from our agency and the National Safety Council. :10
Announcer:
If your home or property has been damaged by fire,
keeping detailed records will help speed up your insurance settlement.
Take pictures that show the damage — both inside and outside your home.
Next, carefully sort damaged property from undamaged items for your
insurance adjuster to examine. Get rid of damaged property that poses
a health hazard or gets in the way of cleanup efforts. But keep a
good list of all the items you discard, with brand names, serial
numbers, prices, and purchase dates. Finally, make a list of any
missing property. And get your undamaged property under shelter — to
prevent further losses. :34
Announcer:
This EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory was brought to you
by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation. :05
