Andrews:
I'm Richard Andrews, director of the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services. This is an EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory
from our agency and the National Safety Council. :10
Announcer:
In California, you need a permit to build an open fire
on state or federal lands. That means you're not allowed to cook over
a campfire, a barbecue, or a portable stove without a permit. On
private land, you must also have the owner's written permission.
Authorities review campfire restrictions almost daily during the
summer, and permits may be restricted, or even suspended, without
advance notice. Among the agencies that issue permits are the
National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Check with
authorities before you build a campfire on restricted lands. :34
Announcer:
This EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory was brought to you
by the Teresa and H. John Heinz III Foundation. :05
