Andrews:
I'm Richard Andrews, director of the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services. This is an EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory
from our agency and the National Safety Council. :10
Announcer:
There are many causes for the wildfires that strike
California at this time of the year. One of them involves the power
lines that deliver electricity to your home. If a tree grows too
close to a live electric line, branches that contact the line could ignite, causing a fire. Call your local power company if you see such
a hazard — staff are trained and equipped to handle the matter.
There's another way you can help. When you landscape your home or
office, notice where power lines cross your property. Plant trees
where they have plenty of room to grow. This will keep branches away
from high-voltage wires and reduce the threat of a fire. :34

This EnvironMinute Disaster Advisory was brought to you
