Iconic buildings light properties green in support of National Safety Council observance.

June 18, 2020

Itasca, Ill. – For the fourth year in a row, building owners in Chicago are lighting their properties green in observance of National Safety Month, held annually in June by the National Safety Council to help save lives and prevent injuries, from the workplace to anyplace. The Illuminate Chicago Lighting Program approved the Council’s lighting request for June 20-26, and NSC appreciates the support of the following buildings going green for safety:

  • 151 N. Franklin
  • 875 North Michigan Avenue
  • Prudential Plaza
  • USG at 550 W. Adams St.
  • Water Tower Place
  • Willis Tower
  • The Wrigley Building, 400-410 North Michigan Ave.

The National Safety Council encourages other iconic buildings and skyscrapers in Chicago and across the country to follow suit, especially during these unprecedented times.

“With unintentional injuries at an all-time high, safety doesn’t dim in the face of a pandemic,” said Lorraine M. Martin, NSC president and CEO. “In fact, safety is more critical now than ever before. National Safety Month is the perfect time to help everyone prioritize safety, both inside and outside the workplace. We are so proud our hometown is illuminating this message in such a visible way.”

National Safety Month this year is focused on timely topics the world is facing right now, including mental health, ergonomics, building a safety culture and driving. This year’s campaign also features the work of the Council’s SAFER: Safe Actions or Employee Returns initiative – a multifaceted, comprehensive effort aimed at helping employers prioritize safety as they return employees to traditional work environments and schedules in a post-quarantine world.

Building managers who decide to light their building green are encouraged to let the Council know by emailing [email protected] or promoting their participation on Twitter using the hashtag #NSM.
